In 2012 I took the plunge into solar PV. If I’d have realised how the UK FIT payments worked back then, I’d have done it sooner. Back then, if a PV install was installed by an installer with all the correct certifications, FIT payments were payed on the power generated, not exported (for that there was another small top up), this means even if you use all the power generated yourself you still get paid.
I had a 1750W (7 x 250W panels) worth of solar PV installed. As my neighbours house casts a shadow across my roof from early afternoon, each panel has its own micro inverter. This means should any panel be shaded, the other will continue to generate power.
